1775 Revolutionary War Era Copper Coin-king George Iii Half-penny Lot 16 For Sale
George III reigned in England from 1760-1820. During his early reign, no regal coppers were produced due to higher copper prices and a significant number of copper coins in circulation. Regal copper half-pence were produced from 1770-1775 by the Crown and farthings were minted during 1771-1775. This is the same King George that was the oppressor of the colonists.
This coin is naturally dark so I have produced lightened pictures ofthe reverse so you can see the date clearly. Thecoin has a good obverse with the head of the king surrounded by the words, "GEORGIUS III REX".There is some detail in the king's clothing although the center is either worn or very lightly struck. The reverse has some good detail as well with a nice clear date of 1775. The word "BRITANNIA"is on the periphery and a seated woman isin the center. The dateis under the seated figure. Considering its age, this is a verynice coin.
I never clean coins or do anything that would alter the color. The coins I sell may have been cleaned or "toned" prior to my ownership, but I won't know this unless the seller tells me. The coin I am selling you is in the same condition as I received it. I will try to note obvious defects in the coin and comment on its condition, but I am not a coin expert. The photos are excellent. You can judge the condition of each of the coins I sell for yourself.
