1780's-1790's Fine Antique Turkoman Tent Band Fragment. Excellent Pile Condition For Sale
FINE, EARLY ANTIQUE TURKOMAN TENT BAND (Yolami) FRAGMENT, Central Asian tribal, Turkmenistan,(perhaps Tekke, Sarik, or Salor???), Circa: 1780'sto 1790's, up to around 1800, andcomingin excellentoverall condition for the collector specialist. The size is:10" x 22" (25 x 56cm). Thisbeautiful, rareexample of anearly Turkmentent band fragment is symmetrically knotted with 100% natural, plant derived, dye lots.It is all wool in construction withno silk or cotton present.The condition is quite good with full, thick piledisplaying motifdesigns that are pre-Islamic in nature, harking back to shamanistic and animistic ancient Central Asian tribalsocieties and passed down through the generations from grandmother to mother to daughter. I am sure there is a story being told by these symbols. Note that thereis one small3" (8cm) tearat the top(see photo #4). This lovely Turkmentextile relichas been professionally cleaned. It is now ready for a collection or decorative display.Rich in color and plush in condition, this tent band fragmentwill make quite a lovely statement as a decorative tribal textile art wall hanging in the home or office.A beautiful, very early,specimen with great colors and condition. A tactile textile that begs to be held and examined up close in the hand. A veryunusual structural feature to notice in regards tothis particular example is the employment of a weft-wrapping technique used to create the outermost, red and blue, "zigzag", guard borders at the sides.
