That's right.... an AMERICAN artifact!
Also known as the Pillar dollar, Spanish milled dollar or Piece of Eight. The 8 Reale is the largest in size of the Spanish silver coins recovered from El Cazador shipwreck. The Spanish 8 Reals coin is recognized as the very first U.S. Dollar used for trade and commerce iin the early days of the United States. Thomas Jefferson even recommended to the Continental Congress that the new country adopt the Spanish milled dollar as its monetary unit of value!
THE FIRST AMERICAN SILVER DOLLAR!!!
IT IS AN AMAZING ORIGINAL AUTHENTIC ANCIENTCOIN THATs IN A PROTECTIVE PLASTIC CASE.
TheEl Cazadorwas a Spanishbrigthat sank in theGulf of Mexicoin 1784. On October 20, 1783 it was sent byCharles III of Spainon a mission to bring much-needed hard currency to the Spanish colony ofLouisiana. The ship sailed toVeracruz, Mexico, where it was loaded with approximately 450,000Spanish reales. On January 11, 1784, it sailed forNew Orleans, and was never heard from again.....
Then, on August 2, 1993, the trawlerMistake, while fishing in the Gulf of Mexico fifty miles south of New Orleans, hung its net on a snag. When the crew hoisted the net and dumped the contents on the deck, they found the net was filled with silver coins!!!! The coins bore markings from the Spanish mint in Mexico, along with the date 1783.
THIS COIN IS FROM THIS VERY SAME SHIPWRECK!!!
This is truly a remarkable opportunity to OWN RARE SILVER a piece of American History!
