We are offering the contents of a small box found to contain GEORGIAN jewelry, discovered in an old Deed box we purchased for the letters and documents, relating to the ALDER family of Newcastle Upon Tyne.
The Deed box had remained unopened and locked since the 1830's.
We offered a few Weeks ago the earrings and Georgian Microscope found in the same box. So please see our other listings for the rest of the jewelry.
This is Truly a superb Ring in super condition, offered together with the Original Manuscript handrawn and Coloured Catalogue in the form of a letter from Robert Makepeace, London 22 March 1782, with a choice of FIVE rings, of which one had been cut from the letter and returned to him as per his instructions as the one to be made, the letter posted to Mr Charles Wren of Newcastle Upon Tyne, an Attorney possibly related to or Acting for the Alder Family, the ring has ver fine Woven cross hatched Hair, the centre reading IN MEMORY OF A FRIEND.
Engraved to William Barkas, died 23rd Nov 1783, age 29.
I am no expert in the jewelry market but as far as the Manuscript Ring Catalogue, in over 40 Years dealing in Manuscripts, never seen one before for this vintage, never mind having the ring that goes with it. Truly a Rare item.
