1800s Mason Genuine Ball Bottle Blue Jar Zinc Lid Porcelain Old Antique Collect For Sale
This is a very old genuine Mason Ball jar with the original zinc lid and
porcelain insert. Light blue in color. There are quite many
small air bubbles in the glass - this is one way to determine if the glass
bottle is old. This jar probably was
made around 1850-1900. At that time the
de-gas technique still wasn’t perfect yet and as a result there were small
bubbles present in the glass bottle made at that time - this is shown in
several of the pictures here. The zinc
lid is complete with a porcelain insert. The opening of the
jar is not smooth and quite sharp on the edge and there are a few chips –
this was how the Mason bottles were made at the time and they are not smooth
like the later ones (see close up pictures).
There are no chips in other areas of the bottle. The bottle measures about 5.25 inches tall
and 3 inches in diameter. It is an
excellent sample of early Mason Ball glass jar.
