OFFERED FOR sale ISTHIS WONDERFUL RARE TRANSITIONAL 1800'S FIXED GLOBE, FIXED TOP, BELL BOTTOM RAILROAD LANTERN WITH THE ORIGINAL "PRR" RUBY RED CAST LETTER GLOBE. I BELIEVE THIS DATES FROM THE CIVIL WAR PERIOD. I NEVER SAW A LARGER LANTERN! HAS A BRASS TOP WITH ORIGINAL PATINA, AND UNUSUAL SHAPED DRAFT HOLES AND ORIGINAL CAN WITH BRASS BURNER WHICH UNSCREWS. STAMPED "334'" ON TOP THE FLARED BELL BOTTOM. THE ORIGINAL GLOBE HAS THE CAST RAISED LETTERS "P R R". IN ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT CONDITION, WITH A SMOOTH OVAL BUBBLE IN THE MAKING IN THE GLASS NEAR THE LETTER "P." NO CRACKS OR CHIPS. GLOBE MEASURES ROUGHLY 6" HIGH.
TALL METAL LANTERN MEASURES 11 1/2" TALL. WITH HANDLE 17 3/8".
CONDITION: IS ALL-OVER PITTED, BUT METAL IS SOLID. NO HOLES. THERE'S A COUPLE BREAKS ALONG THE MIDDLE RIM ONLY AND A COUPLE AGE CRACKS IN THE BRASS TOP-SEE LAST PHOTOS. SELLING IN "AS FOUND, AS IS" CONDITION.
