Revolutionary War Loyalist

Autograph letter signed, G. R. Livingston, March 26, 1804, 1p legal with stampless cover back to John Reade, Esq., Poughkeepsie, manuscript Red Hook, 8 rate. Reade was his brother-in-law.

Content - Unable to pay his debt, "extream scarcity of Cash", "the God of heaven knows it is my wish to serve you". Notes that he received a letter from his son in Cape Francois.

Gilbert Robert Livingston (1758-1816) - Captain in the British army in the Revolutionary War in BenedictArnold's American Legion. Married Martha de Lancy Kane.

Written on a sheet of embossed revenue stamped paper, Second Federal Issue, watermark italics Gen Stamp Office, with (3) 4c stamps, RM260 - one complete, one slight loss border and third partially torn away near seal.

Size: 8" x 12.25"

Condition: Entireseparation on horizontal foldswith archival tape repair back. Minimal text loss. Else good.
