1813 Bible Owned By Jacob Marker:
HOLY Printed in 1813 by Mathew Carey 121 Carey street, Philadelphia, Pa.
A small and very thick old bible owned by Jacob Marker.
There are hand written dates of 1811, 1814,and 1816 on the front pages.
Under the owner's name of Jacobs is written Mary Marker.
I assume Mary was the wife of Jacob.
I don’t know if Jacob Marker was from Indiana, but I bought
this bible at an sale in Indiana about 45 or 50 years ago.
My memory fails me a this point, but I seem to recall something being mentioned by the saleeer about Ohio.
The front, back, and end are covered in plastic and was in this condition when I bought it. The covering is well done and has protected this bible over many years.
The bible is 4 1/2 inches wide, by 6 5/8 inches tall, by 2 3/4 inches thick.
The front two pages are a little ragged around the edges as are the last two pages. Otherwise, the entire bible is in very good condition for its age. I should mention that the original white pages have turned a tan color over the last 200 years (see photos).
I hope that this bible will find a home with the descendants of the Jacob Marker’s family.
