Original check drawn on the Bank of Columbia dated August 22, 1814, written and signed by US Secretary of War John Armstrong (1758-1843) in the amount of $250. Armstrong served as an officer in the Revolutionary War, a member of the Continental Congress from Pennsylvania and also a member of the US Senate from New York for several terms.
