1815-1830 High Grade U.s. Mounted Artillery Officers Sword For Sale
Offered from my personal collection isa beautiful high grade artillery officers sword dating from between 1815 and 1830. The grip appears to be made of ivory and not bone as there are no large hairline cracks usually found on bone grips. The grip does have a small crack (see pictures) but the hilt is firmly in place and tight to the blade, no wiggle or loosenessto be found at all. The blade measures 34" with the curve and is etched with military motiffs and and an outstanding period eagle chased in gold wash. The blue and gold wash together exhibits a beautiful look along the curved blade. The blade also has the U.S. motiff and liberty cap and the American Eagle and shield. The blade is also etched with the word "Warrant". There is no maker mark that I can see on the sword unless it is under the langets. This sword is of a higher quality than you normally see. You can sense the high quality of this piece as evidenced by the fine detail on the ferrule ring. It almost resembles jewelry instead of a sword part.
The scabbard is avery hard to find repro with aged mounts. It makes for a wonderful display and the sword does fit snugly into the scabbard with only 1/4" of blade exposed where it meets the hilt. I had to search high and low for this scabbard and have not seen a loose one since. But they certainly make a nice display pair.

The sword still retains its original washer located under the langets where the blade meets the hilt. This is the reason the sword is still tight and balanced. Very few examples exist with its original washer for this period style sword.
