1832 Sduk Paris Environs France Map Genuine Old Antique J&c Walker Versailles:
" The Environs of Paris."A map with the imprint at the bottom "Published by Baldwin & Cradock, Paternoster Row, under the Superintendence of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge. March 1st 1832." Engraved by J&C Walker.
The rivers handcoloured. In 1830, Louis-Philippe began the construction of a fortified wall around the city, on what is now the route of the Boulevard Peripherique, but I can see no evidence of this marked on this map. Clearly, Paris has developed into the surrounding countryside since this map was made.
The Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge was set up in 1826 under the auspices of Lord Brougham, the aim being to provide at a reasonable cost material for those self-taught, or unable to obtain a formal education. It published a large number of maps, ranging from countries to city plans.
This is a genuine antique map that would frame up nicely.
Size: the sheet measures approx. 42cms x 35cms.Condition:A little browned around the edges, but the map is in a good condition.
Free postage within the UK. £8.00 to Europe, £12.00 to USA etc.I have other antique maps (including SDUK City Plans), books, prints, etc. in my shop. Please see my other items.
