Two volumes of William Dunbar\'s poetry.

An interesting association copy with the bookplate of Lytton Strachey designed by Dora Carrington to the front pastedown of both volumes.

Strachey was a founding member of the Bloomsbury Group and is known for establishing a new form of biography.

To the recto of front endpaper of both volumes is the bookplate of Strachey\'s final lover, Roger Senhouse. The bookplate wasdesigned by Will Carter. Senhouse was a publisher and translator and was friends with Michael Llewelyn Davies, one of the boys upon whom Peter Pan was based.

There are a further two bookplates to volume I and Ivolume to volume II. John Porter\'s bookplate is to volume I only andJohn Waldie\'s bookplate is to volumes I and II.

With a memoir of Dunbar\'s life by David Laing to volume I.

William Dunbar was a Scottish makar poet active in the late fifteenth century and early sixteenth century. His work is distinguished by its great variation in themes and literary styles.

CONDITION

In full morocco bindings with gilt stamping to the spines and board edges. Externally, smart with small areas or rubbing to the joints and extremities. Several bookplates to front pastedowns and to the recto of front endpaper, the bookplates of Lytton Strachey, Roger Senhouse, John Porter and John Waldie. Library shelf label to the front pastedownof both volumes, \'Poetry no 273. Prior owner\'s bibliographical information written in pencilto the endpapers of volume I. Internally,both volumes are firmly bound. Pages are generally bright with light scattered spots throughout. Overall:NEAR FINE
