1838 Abolition Anti-Slavery Medal RARE UNLISTED & GEM

We have a very rare anti-slavery, abolition medal from 1838 here. This one was unknown and unlisted in Brown! In addition, this medal was missing even in the great Martin Jacobowitz collection.

The only other specimen that I am aware of was saleed by DNW in their July 2011 sale, where an \"about extremely fine\" example brought 410 pounds (about $675). They list its provenance as being from the 1997 Paul Bosco sale.

Our specimen measures 38mm and is struck in white metal with a hole for suspension as usual, as was the DNW specimen mentioned above. Our example has proof-like fields and frosted devices. This becomes evident upon tilting the medal at an angle and catching the light. I cannot imagine a better looking piece of this issue existing anywhere.

This example was not even represented in 2015 Heritage sale of specialized slave tokens and medals.

If you collect historical anti-slavery materials that is rare and in tip-top shape, this one is for you!
