"Constantinople. Stambool"A map of this important City, which stands at the crossroads of Asia and Europe. Now called Istanbul.
With the imprint at the bottom: "Published by the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge, 59 Lincolns In Fields. Sept. 1840." Engraved by BR Davies.
The Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge was set up in 1826 under the auspices of Lord Brougham, the aim being to provide at a reasonable cost material for those self-taught, or unable to obtain a formal education. It published a large number of maps, ranging from countries to city plans.
This is a genuine antique map that would frame up nicely. With plenty of detail, and the sea areas with blue original handcolouring.
Size: the sheet measures approx. 42cms x 35cms.Condition:A little browned at the edges of the sheet, but the map itself is in a good condition.
