Up for your consideration is a magnificent,silver plated, centerpiece basket manufactured by the Manhattan Silver PlateCompany, founded in Lyons, New York in 1847. The hallmark on the piece suggestsit was manufactured around the time of the company’s conception. The firmexported a great quantity of their silver plated items to South America andAustralia. A pretty piece that measures9.50 inches high and 12 inches in diameter at the top surface. This stunningpiece can be used alone as a centerpiece or filled with fruit for a spectaculardisplay. The basket is divided into 6 sections, each beautifully etched with arepousse design of a thistle plant or a detailed native carrying a plank oftropical fruits on his or her head. A medallion in the middle depicts three antleredbucks lazing in a field. The outer rim and large handle have an embossed CallaLily design. Very small, script initials have been placed in one section on the front but they are so fancy and tiny they seem to blend in with the designs. The centerpiece fruit bowl rests on a round pedestal base. Thepiece is in GOOD ESTATE CONDITION. There is some silver wear and the basket could usefurther polishing. There are however no repairs or dents. A centerpiece bowlthat will add a touch of elegance wherever it is placed.
