1847 Letter To Superintendent Of Ny State Lunatic Asylum For Sale
My father, who was an American History professor collected old letters. He died three years ago, and I am slowly finding new homes for those old letters. Offered here is a letter sentAug 20, 1847 from Champion (NY) by the family physician of a new resident of the New York State Lunatic Asylum in Utica. His patient "has always been of feeble health, quite nervous and her mind easily excited". He goes on to list some more of her medical history. How scary it must have been to have a mental illness back then!
