Dated August 11, 1851.
Texas Land Grant of 320 acres in Milam District to a James Hays.
Approximately 13 3/4" X 12". Vellum (calf skin paper), folded.
Signed by the third Governor of Texas, Peter H. Bell andthe Texas Commissioner of Public Lands, George Smyth.
Embossed with three seals - 2 lower left and 1 bottom center (each partially decipherable).
Two modest holes along the perimeter of the bottom center seal. The rest of the document is hole free.
With magnification and significant patience, the faded handwritten script is readable.
On the back, the hand-stamp and adhering small certificate are both fairly sharp.
The document, being aged vellum, is relatively stiff and crinkled with age (likely further influenced by innumerable cycles of Texas humidity & drying).
Nevertheless, an impressive document.
