1857

“March 5th,

Arose this morning feeling as nice as could be. Ate a farewell breakfast at Mr. Benedict’s. Started for the depot about 9 o’clock. Cars came along about 9 o’clock 30 mi (minutes). Got home about two in time for dinner. Ate very hearty. There were a good many students on board the cars this morning.”

“March 18th,

Got up very early this morning and started for Homer. Got at depot and the cars at 9 o’clock 25 mi. Father came down with me and found a boarding place at Mr. Crawfoot’s on _____ St.”

“March 29th,

Arose this morning at 7 o’clock and had a fire. Went back to bed again until 7 o’clock and 30 mi. when bell rung. It has been a pleasant day. Went to the funeral of Mrs. Blaney. Hustead and Graham have been by here. Went to Hustead’s room this evening. Went to church. Saw lots of pretty girls.”

“April 10th,

Arose this morning at quite an early hour and built a fire for Chum as he was quite sick with a colic. Received a call from Hustead at about 5 o’clock 30 mi. Had to go up to the depot with Chum as he was going home. Went down to Hustead’s.”

“April 17th,

Did not arise this morning until the second bell had rung but did not loose my breakfast. Started for the depot about five. Cars did not come along until 6 o’clock 3 mi. Arrived at Apulia about 7 o’clock 15 mi. P.M. Went over to Fabris and the boys arrived at 9. Got home about 11 o’clock, found folks all well.”

“May 8th (back at school)

Arose this morning very early as early as 5 o’clock A.M. Went out walking with my Chum. We went up around by the old tannery and down by the tavern kept by Sampson and soon back home. Chum went home tonight on the cars. R. staid with me over night.”

“May 9th,

Arose this morning a little more early then usual on account of Alme wishing to see some girls. Ate breakfast and then went out walking. Got an introduction to Miss Amy Brownell. Had the pleasure of walking to the fair grounds and around back to the burying ground with her.”

“May 13th,

Arose this morning as early as 5 o’clock 30 mi and went down to breakfast as soon as possible. Was just in time to save my breakfast. Have been to school today the same as usual. Attended the lecture of Dr. Moran this evening.”
