1858 Document Signed By Queen Victoria I And By 4th Earl Of Clarendon

Complete document; dated 3rd February, 1858; commission hand-written on both sides of large folded sheet; impressed with seal; signed "Victoria R" by Queen Victoria I of the United Kingdom; countersigned by 4th Earl of Clarendon.

PLEASE READ BEFORE offerDING:I am selling my late grandfather’s collection of original autographs and signatures in order to pay for my grandmother’s dental work. She gave me a box of his files along with the crate of frames; I went through the lot and I was able to match sales receipts with most (but not all) of the specimens. What you see in the listing photographs is exactly what you get, which includes everything that I have for each item.

I recently disassembled the frames and mattes, photographed the specimens front and back, and placed them in acid-free archival sleeves. I handled the specimens carefully with white gloves, but my grandfather was not an archivist. As clearly evident in the photographs, some of the articles have discoloration from adhesive residue, and some have residual tape that I did not attempt to remove. For the most part, discoloration is emphasized by photographic contrast, so in reality the specimens look a bit cleaner. For exact sizing, all items were photographed on a black Alvin cutting mat with 1/2-inch grid.

Some receipts list multiple items; as I cannot include the original with each item, I photographed copies for the secondary items. Should you wish to contact the dealers or their successors, you might be able to acquire facsimiles, but I cannot guarantee so. My grandfather purchased the bulk of his collection from Conway Barker, well-known Texas autograph dealer and Manuscript Society charter member. Other dealer receipts and ancillary papers are as photographed. For those few items which lack receipts, I encourage you to view my other sales to get a sense of the whole lot. Letters addressed to my grandfather (James M. Hare) serve as their own receipt.
All specimens are hand-signed originals (no facsimiles, no auto-pen); writing instruments (quill, fountain, felt-tip or ball-point) are date-appropriate as discernible in the photos.I have aimed to answer all questions in advance to the best of my knowledge. As I am not a collector myself, I am not familiar with specialized jargon. As my grandfather is deceased, some questions regarding provenance may be unanswerable. Please for info on authentication services.
