1860 Copper medal featuring portrait of Thomas Sayers, British bare-knuckles boxing champion. He fought American Champion John C. Heenan in Farnborough, England on April 17, 1860.
The match ended after 42 rounds in a draw after injury to Sayer's arm. He subsequently retired from boxing.
Listed on page 14 ofSo-Called Dollars, 2nd Edition as 10b. Copper, 34mm diameter & plain edge.
There cited to be Rarity 7. Just 11-20 known.
This example is original, not cleaned, with solid XF details. The only notable marks are old scratches within the reverse legends.
