Nicely penned letter home of student A. E. Watters to father, Feb. 27, 1860, 3pp.
"In writing this time I must mention something about our College. The agent was here last week and made us a fine speech after which the young men of their own free will made up a handsome purse of sixteen hundred dollars to aid in erecting additional buildings, by far surpassing the present stately edifice. Our President [Craven] is a noble and generous man..."
"The excitement created by the election of Commencement Officers is nearly over and the boys have commenced studying hard again. We have no disgraceful drunkards to keep the faculty always annoyed and mad, but in their own language a 'set of refined and polished gentlemen.'"
