1860's Civil War Union Officer Signed Albumen Cdv Photograph / Photo #2 For Sale
Original, 1860's, Signed and Inscribed, CDV Photograph of Union Civil War Lieutenant James F, Bennett of the 3rd Regiment, Colorado Infantry and Acting Adjutant General of the Department of the Missouri. This outstanding, period, albumen Photograph measures approx. 2 1/4” by 3 5/8” and is mounted on its original, square corner, CDV Card Mount (card measures approx 2 1/2" by 4"). The portrait is signed and inscribed at the bottom "Yours Truly / J. F. Bennett / a.a.g.". The Card Mount is blank backed and the Image is unsigned by the photographer.
The Photograph is a full figure portrait of Bennett wearing a 3/4 length, frock coat with cape over. He stands next to an upholstered side chair in a photographer’s studio and wears a kepi with a wreath insignia lettering that we cannot decipher.
This rare and wonderful CDV Photograph is in excellent condition. The Image exhibits sharp focus, strong contrast and rich tonality. The Photograph itself is clean and crisp with some VERY light mottling to the blank area in the upper corners. The card mount is also clean and crisp with sharp corners and little wear of any kind. The signature and inscription is dark and bold with an ink smudge on the lower loop of the capital “J” (which occurred at the time the card was signed).
