1860s Hooflands German Tonic Reverse Painted Sign Drug Store Bitters No Reserve For Sale
I AM LISTING MANY INTERESTING AND UNIQUE ANTIQUES THIS WEEK SO PLEASE CHECK MY OTHER sales!!!! This listing is for an original 1860s era reverse painted glass sign for Hooflands German Tonic. Sign measures 11-3/4" X 13-3/4" overall and has the original signmaker's label on the back. A small sticker on the front tells that it was once in the Carlyn Ring collection, which was one of the finest bitters collections ever assembled, saleed off decades ago. I also have a great handmade glass bottle to match the sign although the wording is slightly different - Hoofland's German Bitters - rather than Tonic. Bottle has had a corner that has been repaired, but it displays well with the sign. Very rare. Some flaking to the paint but this can be repaired very easily as all the flaking is in the color black bachground. Sign is stable and not flaking anymore. I would suggest leaving it alone, as it is a very rare survivor from a civil war era drug store. See pictures for condition specifics.
