Original handwritten letter from C.C. Shimer (Cornelius Cuddleback), Montague, NJ, to Chauncey Thomas, dated December 17, 1861, regarding price current for feed and buckwheat flower. One page, 8” X 5”.

Cornelius Cuddleback Shimer (1839-1864,) who’s Great-Grandfather, Jacob Shimer, built a house in the 1790’s on property belonging to his father Captain Abraham Shimer, which stood on Old Mine Rd, Millville, Sussex County, NJ., known as the Jacob Shimer House. Cornelius enlisted in the U.S. Army in August, 1862 as 1st Lieutenant, 15th New Jersey Infantry. He was killed at during the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, VA, May 12, 1864.

IN NEAR FINE CONDITION! There is a very faint damp stain along the blank lower edge; has some very slight paper along the blank right edge. We unconditionally  warrant, without time limit, the authenticity of this 1861 C.C. Shimer letter. We have been dealing in historical newspapers and fine documents since 1974 DBA \"Historical Newspapers and Journals\". 10 day return privilege.
