Letter is addressed to General Seymour from Wellington H. Ent. A little intel on Wellington provided by the transcriber of the letter, jkpaper27305: The 6th Pennsylvania Reserve Corps (35th Regiment Pa. Infantry), was mustered into service in 1861, and mustered out in 1864. They fought with the Army of the Potomac in all the major battles during that time, including the Seven Days, Fredericksburg, Antietam, Gettysburg, the Wilderness, etc. The writer of this letter, Wellington H. Ent, commanded the Regiment as Lt. Colonel, at the Battle of Gettysburg, and was promoted to Colonel, effective July 1, 1863. A monument to the Regiment is at the GettysburgBattlefield. Letter reads as follows:(Personal)Head Quarters 6th P.R.C. [Pennsylvania Reserve Corps - 35th Regt. Pa. Infantry]Harrisons Landing, Va., Aug. 2nd, \'62Gen\'l. Seymour, Dear Sir,Having learned that you would be consulted as to the proper officer to be sent on Recruiting Service, and having made application for, and been promised by the Lt. Co. commanding by Regt. (nothing outside interfering) to be detailed for that duty, you will excuse me for asking from you a favorable word in my behalf.I have been out from home fifteen months, during which time I have physically been constantly at my post, and until within a month, for duty every day but one. In this respect, I stand alone in my Regt., every other officer having been allowed to visited home on some pretext or other, and have thus had an opportunity for recreation...For a monthpast I have been sick, and feel that a change of climate and occupation would be of vast benefit to me physically, even though the labor be great as if I remained here. If I am allowed to visit Harrisburg in person, I feel confident that Ican secure a position shortly that will pay a larger remuneration than the one I now hold, besides being more honorable. Knowingyou to be a friend of every officer who strives to his duty well, and that if affords you pleasure to see such promoted, I offer this last consideration strictly in apersonal sense. Believing that you will, if you can, grant what Ihave asked, and hoping if you cannot, you will always be assured that I shall follow withpride and a certainty of success, wherever you lead, I am Sir, with great respect, Yourobd\'t Servant, Wellington H. Ent .paper has edge/corner wear, age staining and has yellowed/toned from time...
