1862 Civil War Era Soldier Letter Datelined Old Kentucky Kelly's Bridge

Up for sale is a vintage Civil War Era Soldier letter, written on patriotic letterhead, datelined Old Kentucky Oct. 31, 1862, Kelly's Bridge, this side of Synthianna (Cynthianna) about a mile guarding said bridge......Excerpts from the the 10th of this month we were ordered to march towards Lexington. I was unable to move. I had been unwell for some eight days before this. There was a guard left behind to guard some goods, provisions. I stayed with them overnight on the 10th..................The quartermaster ordered me to a mans house, Mr. Wilburn on the pike nearby......I was really crazy with Typhoid Fever...........Thanks to the Good Father I am square again..........Overnight, an ambulance is coming back from with our sick troops........We came on at a good gate to Lexington_ -found the general Military Hospitals full to ?????, consequently by some strange whim of the driver, he did not cross us to Cint (Cincinnati??) as he should have done, where we might have been accom (idated) in a general hospital, but took us to the Sisters of Charity Hospital Cov., between Scott and Madison on 5th Street. We were taken care of by some 5 Charitable very Deutche catholic Sisters. The catch was we had to pay our bill out of our own pocket..........I was bedfast some 8 or 9 days only, very sick with Typhoid Fever. Our doctor said we had excellent medical attendance and Number 1 nurses..I improved rapidly..........We were in the third story in a very nice light roomy room, nice beds. The Sisters kept it very clean..................."...Letter was written by Private Pembroke S, Scott, Company B., O.V.I. Comes with a transcription and a note or two about the letter. Paper has staining, edge wear and has yellowed from time. ... ...... .. .. ...... ...... ... . ... . .... ... ........... ..... ... ................. .... ......... ... . ..... .... . ...... ........ ...., ....... ... ... ........ .. ......... ... ********MULTIPLE sale WINNERS::::::::Please wait until I send an invoice before paying.
