The writers writes that he was on picket duty, complains about not writing good letters (he is modest), love has grown 10 times stronger, much more on his love and affection for Jennie. Could not be at home under circumstances, country needs his help and he’s willing to lay his life down, wants to clear country of curse. It is an unfriendly world, it’s been seven months since he went away, and maybe in another seven months he will be in his silent grave. He was disappointed about not taking Fort Pillow, generals could not agree on making attack, so many men have suffered in the war, hundreds dying simply for lack of care. Wants Jennie to write to him at Co. E., 47th Ind. Vols. There’s more content on his love for Jennie, fatalistic attitude toward his future.

Letter sheet size open 10” X 8”, written in dark ink and easy to read, folds and some toning.

I will be listing a collection of 18th- and 19th-century documents and letters, most of which pertain to the Revolutionary War, Civil War, and American whaling industry. The transcriptions are my best interpretation of the penmanship. You should review the photos I have posted in each listing and decide for yourself.
