1862 Pickensville Alabama Civil War Letter Soldiers Killed 3rdRegimentThis is a great rare letter from Mary Ferguson of Pickensville, Alabama to William A Ferguson of the 4thBattalion, 2ndMississippi Cavalry and was involved in the Battle of Shiloh. The letter is from July 1862 and says in part,Father returned from Georgia last night.He brings us late papers which are the first we have had in some time.McClellan is safe under cover of his gunboats having been reinforced by Shields.We hear of foreign intervention again but like all other reports proves to be false…I see in the papers the names of a great many wounded with whom you are acquainted, Mr PT Trayler fo the3rd Alabama Regt, Capt Crawford Blackwood of the 8thAla, Jimmie and Taylor Bradshaw of the 5thAla Bat of volunteers.Bud Ferguson of the same bat is wounded and I am sorry to see that he is severely wounded.The killed and wounded in the Blues is as follows: killed, Ashmore, Donelson, JT Jones, James Brown.Wounded: AA Ball, WA Brownlee, WA Evans, Mcafferty Smithson.I wrote you the particulars of David Lang’s sad death in another battle.Both Mr Finely and Mr Gordon have died from their wounds received in the first battle…Be sure to add me to your favorites list!
