SUPERB COVER TO GRB HORNER !! (Gustavus Richard Brown Horner wrote the book Naval Medical Practice. He graduated with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.). He gained the rank of officer in the service of the U.S. Navy. Birth: 18 JUN 1804 in Warrenton, Fauquier County, Virginia. Death: 8 AUG 1892 in Warrenton, Fauquier County, Virginia. Dr. Brown was appointed a Naval Surgeon’s Mate by President John Quincy Adams in 1826. He had a very long and distinguished medical career until he retired in 1866 and accepted duty at the United States Marine Rendezvous, Philadelphia, Pa. In 1873 he was appointed Medical Director by Ulysses S. Grant. Dr. Horner did not serve the Confederacy, though his son did. The papers of Gustavus Richard Brown Horner (1804-1892), who retired to Warrenton in 1871 with the rank of Commodore, are at the Library of Congress (4900 items) and at the University of Virginia Library (33 volumes of diaries and journals).
