Up for sale is a vintage Civil War Era Soldier's letter datelined United States marine Hospital, New Orleans, March 7, 1864. Letter was written by George H. Vanderson to Emma. Writer relates news he is given about his unit. He says he would feel better if he could rejoin his Company, and probably will if they stop for any length of time. He writes how the talk is the War will "end this season" and how happy the men will be to get back to their families. letter gives no indication of what Company or Regiment Mr. Vanderson was in. believe, by GEORGE H. VANDUSEN, He was born in upstate NY on 7/20/1845.
He married Emma C. Adams on March 19, 1862. He enlisted as a private
in Company K of the NY 2nd Cavalry Regiment on October 10, 1863. They
were mustered in on November 10, 1863 and he mustered out on November 8,
1865 in Talladega, Alabama. The NY 2nd Cavalry were assigned to the
Department of the Gulf which would put him in New Orleans. He died in
Gansevort, Saratoga NY on October 20, 1905"..
