1864 Civil War Sword, No Reserve Auction For Sale
Model 1864 Cavalry Sword - Thisswordismarked US C.E.W 1864. There is no maker's stamp on the reversericasso. My research indicates that C.E.W. stands forCharles E. Wilson who inspected from 1862 to 1864.The blade including the ricassois approximately35 inches in length.
Thegrip is missing most of it's leather, washer and wire. There isa missing piece at the butt of the handle (see pic).
Brass guard ismarked with the I/2 in size number 38 (see pic) not sure what this means. The brass isshowing a dark and sometimes spotty patina from age.
There is a very thin natural rusty skin covering the blade. The good news is there isno deep pitting on the blade. It is my opinion the bladeis all original, has never been sharpenedand that no one has ever attempted torestore her.
