1864 antique CIVIL WAR LETTERHEAD HANDWRITTEN LETTER new orleans SHEPHERDSON NY
This listing is for the 4 page handwritten letter shown. Paper measures approx 5" x8" and the letterhead is of 2d battalion, 117th Regiment, New York State Volunteers, Lieutenant Colonel A. White commanding, Company "F", March 16, 1863.
Interesting letter written in ink, is legible. Content is of personal nature as well as some insights into what is going on in campe. They are presently about 9 miles above New Orleans.
Shepardson writes that he is glad to know the friend has joined the service as "misery loves company". Neal Dow is his Brigadier general. The letter notes there are 2 days rations in case they need to march and help the troops at Fort Hudson, as well as other challenges along the way.
