1865 ABRAHAM LINCOLN MOURNING RIBBON BY THOMAS STEVENS OF COVENTRY ENGLAND ******
1865 ABRAHAM LINCOLN MOURNING STEVENSGRAPH RIBBON. ItIs A Multicolored Woven Silk ribbon Produced In England By Thomas Stevens Of Coventry England and Exported To America After Lincoln's Assassination. It Is Titled " The Late Lamented President Lincoln".This Ribbon Is A Modified Version Of The Ribbon The Company Also Produced For Lincoln's Second Inauguration In 1865.
The Top Of The RibbonReads ASSASSINATED AT WASHINGTONN 14 APRIL 1865 And Under This it Bears A Lincoln Quote Which StatesI HAVE SAID NOTHING BUT WHAT I AM WILLING TO LIVE BY AND IF IT BE THE PLEASURE OF ALMIGHTY GOD. TO DIE BY. ( A LINCOLN ) In The Center Of The Ribbon Is A Beautiful Woven Print Of Lincoln Surrounded By An Oval Frame With Stars Around The Rim. At The Bottom Of The Ribbon It States THE LATE Lamented President Lincoln With Two US Flags Joining At The Bottom.
As The Photos Reflect This Ribbon Still Retains A Lot Of it's Original, Vibrant Colors Of Blue And Maroon. The Ribbon Measures 2 x 9 1/2".I Believe These Were Always Made With A Tassel Attached At The Bottom. I Have Seen Both A Blue Tassel And A Red Tassel Attached To These But This One Does Not Have One Attached.I HadThis Ribbon Professionally Mounted On A Black, "Cloth Type",Acid Free Backing And Behind Non-Reflective Glass By A Professional Frame Shop That I have Always Used To Do This Type Of Work. The Frame IsA Light Gold Colored Antique Style. On The Back Of The Frame Are Two Round Anchors With A Wire Attached And Arrives Ready To Hang For Presentation. There Are Two Round Black Cushions At The Bottom Of The Frame For Support As Well.
At The Top Of The Ribbon, On The Right Side, About A 1/2" From The Top There Is A Separation Of The Ribbon About 3/4" Long. It Is Only Noticeable Upon Close Inspection. Also Just Below The Word April, At The Top, There Is A Small Dark Stain But Does Not Protrude Into The Words. In Addition to This, At The Bottom Left Side Along The Fringe, About 1" From The Bottom There Is A Very Small Area Missing From The Fringe. This Is Very Slight and Hardly Noticeable But Should Be Noted. This Ribbon Has Been In My Personal Collection For Many Years And Well Taken Care Of. It Has Been Displayed Under Very Low Light Conditions.
As Always ,Considering The RarityAnd Condition Of This Ribbon, I Have A Very Low Start And ! Please offer With Confidence And Forward Any Questions And They Will Be Answered Promptly. Thank you for Looking.
