"The importance that for many years has been given to the military element in the Order of Masonic Knights Templar in America has made it necessary that special manuals should be prepared for the instruction of Knights in the elementary principles of military movement … Books of this kind have now become as necessary and as common to the Knights Templar as Monitors are to the Master Mason."

– From the Encyclopedia of Freemasonry by Albert Gallatin Mackey

DESCRIPTION:

This is an extremely rare First Edition of TACTICS FOR KNIGHTS TEMPLAR, written by E. Sir Knight George Wingate Chase of Massachusetts and published in the year 1865, even as the last gunshots of the Civil War still echoed across bloody battlefields throughout the South.

So rare is this 1865 book, in fact, that currently NO OTHER ORIGINAL EDITION of this important manual is available ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD.

This is the ONE and ONLY.

In his Encyclopedia Of Freemasonry, Albert Gallatin Mackey explained the evolution of Knights Templar tactics manuals:

The importance that for many years has been given to the military element in the Order of Masonic Knights Templar in America has made it necessary that special manuals should be prepared for the instruction of Knights in the elementary principles of military movement … These works contain the necessary instructions in the School of the Knight, or the proper method of marching, halting, saluting, handling the sword, etc., and the School of the Commandery, or directions for properly performing the evolutions on a public parade. Books of this kind have now become as necessary and as common to the Knights Templar as Monitors are to the Master Mason.

This book, TACTICS FOR KNIGHTS TEMPLAR by George Wingate Chase, lays claim to being the FIRST complete manual of its kind.

In the Preface, Mr. Chase writes:

The compiler believes he may claim for the present work the merit of being the first complete system of Templar tactics yet issued from the press; and he feels confident that it will satisfactorily fill the vacancy so long and so generally acknowledged in the work of Masonic Knighthood.

In adapting the strictly military commands and movements to the use of Masonic Knights, special pains have been taken to avoid infringing upon military rules and customs. In this the compiler believes he has been reasonably successful, and that the few departures herein made from the strict military standard will not only be found consistent with the main purpose in view, but will in no wise embarrass those who have already been drilled in the military school. It may not be improper to state, that no change of the kind has been made – not even the slightest – without careful consideration, and consultation with those of large practical experience in military tactics.

Whatever price buyers bestow upon this rarity of the Masonic brotherhood, rest assured that its value will only increase in years to come.

Opportunities like this should not be missed or taken lightly. This may be the ONLY chance you EVER have to add this extremely rare First Edition Civil War-era Masonic relic to your Lodge’s library or your own personal collection
