1865 Civil War Era Soldier Letter Datelined Goldsboro North Carolina For Sale
Up for sale is a vintage Civil War Era Soldier letter datelined Goldsboro, Noirth Carolina, April 16, 1865. Letter written by garret Empie, "C" Company 175th Regiment 1 Division, 10th Army Corps, meaning he was in the infantry. Writer says he just got back to his Regiment after marching 130 miles from Wilmington, with 3000 men, and that his company is now guarding a bridge. The men are talking about that if nothing happens, they should be home by the Fourth of July...and that the Confederacy has gone down, gold has gone down and greenbacks gone up, and that he had just been assigned to the tenth corps. Letter is a mix of what's going on at camp and about people back home.
