This is an interesting item. It is a receipt for 17 copies of \"No. 17\". Since there were no copying devices of any kind during this period it was a laborious chore. These two officers enlisted at nearly the same time in February, 1865 which was at the very end of the war. They were apparently assigned to be part of the occupation of the South since they were both from Illinois and both were mustered out in Georgia at nearly the same time.The document reads as follows:Received at Columbus Ga this 12th day of Oct. 1865 of Capt. A.A. Buck A.I. Gen\'l 1st Brig. 2nd Div. D. Ga the following copies in good condition.Dept. of GA 17 Copies No. 17Silas BatteyMajor Command\'g 151 Ill. Inf.This item is in good condition.
