THE LIFE OF GENERAL ULYSSES S. GRANT
Ulysses S. Grant (April 27, 1822 – July 23, 1885) was the 18th President of the United States (1869–1877) following his highly successful role as a war general in the second half of the Civil War. Under Grant, the Union Army defeated the Confederate military; the war, and secession, ended with the surrender of Robert E. Lee's army at Appomattox.
The majority of the book concerns Grant's military career and role in the Civil War. After brief introductory chapters on Grant's early life, author John Abbott follows him through the Civil War and concludes with his farewell address to the troops.
Highlights of the book include several engravings and Battle Maps of Vicksburg, Shiloh, Corinth, Sherman's March to Atlanta, etc.
A less common Grant biography than many others out there, with the emphasis on the Civil War. Nice collectible in the First Edition.
