1868 Ulysses S. Grant Ferrotype In Ornate Brass Shell Pin For Sale
Grant Brass Shell Pin
This brass shell pin from the 1868 presidential campaign of Republican Ulysses S. Grant features a ferrotype portrait of the candidate set in an ornate oval shell frame with eagle above, flags at each side and crossed ribbons inscribed E PLURIBUS UNUM.
This item is similar to USG 1868-136 in Edmund Sullivan’s book American Political Badges and Medals 1789-1892. This popular shell design was used for elections from 1864 to 1880.
This 1” x 1 ¼” campaign pin is in Very Good condition. There is a minor vertical bend to the ferrotype seen from an angle, but otherwise it is clear and problem-free. The reverse straight pin is missing.
