1869 Two-cent Piece ~ Post Civil War ~ Combined Shipping Lot C10:
1869 TWO-CENT PIECE(LOT C10)
During the American Civil War, there was an Act of April 22, 1864, which changed the weight and composition of the cent, included a provision for a Two-Cent Piece. The Two-Cent Piece is one of the shortest-lived issues of United States Coinage. The motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" appeared for the first time on the 1864 Two-Cent Piece. Two-Cent Pieces were minted from 1864 to 1873. The Shield on the Obverse was later used on the 1866 Shield Nickel.
