These maps are from an 1870 Atlas of Worcester County, MA. It was published by F.W. Beers & Co. of New York in 1870. The maps are drawn from actual surveys by and under the direction of F.W. Beers assisted by Geo. P. Sanford and others. These maps are typically hand-colored and highly detailed, showing numerous buildings that are often identified by the name of the owner or proprietor. If you are looking for a particular name, feel free to ask. The single page map measures 15 ½ by 12 ¾ inches, the double page map measures 23 by 15 ½ inches

Plate # 13: This map shows the entire town of Athol with such landmarks as: Chestnut, Pine Dale, Vermont and Massachusetts RR, Athol Depot, Athol and Enfield RR and a river named Tully.
The business directory is extensive with at least 100 entries divided in the following categories: Attorney at Law, Hotel (the Summit House), Livery, Clergymen, Insurance, Physicians, Dentists, Manufacturers, Merchants, Bakery (on School St), Undertaker, Carpenters, Builders, Painters and Miscellaneous. There is a separate business listing on the page for “Athol Town”.
Map condition: Tanning near edges, small brown spot on bottom margin, otherwise very good.
Plate # 14, 15: This double page map that shows both Athol Depot and Athol is very, very detailed, showing every single house, church, school, manufacturer, shop, store and hotel. All are clearly identified, including the names of the home owners and business proprietors. In addition to an extensive business directory listing all the Attorneys, Hotel (the Summit House), Livery, Clergymen, Insurance, Physicians, Dentists, Manufacturers, Merchants, Bakery (on School St), Undertaker, Carpenters, Builders and Painters, it even lists the owners of some of the dwelling and who occupies those dwellings. Miller’s Pond and River, as well as the Vermont Massachusetts RR run prominently through town.
Map: Condition: excellent, no stains, no tears, minimal tanning.
