1870's Civil War Veteran's Gar / Grand Army Of The Republic Membership Badge:
Rare and beautiful, ca1870's classic Bronze Civil War GAR / Grand Army of the Republic Corps Badge. This Beautiful Ribbon Badge / Medal is of the classic 2 piece, Flag ribbon form and measures approx. 3" long overall and 1 1/2" across at the cast bronze, figural bar pin.
The badge consists of a fancy, cast bronze bar pin in the form of an eagle perched atop crossed cannons. Attached to the upper bar pin via an American Flag form silk ribbon is the 5 pointed star "Medal" of the GAR. On the edge of the Star is the serial number "B56062".
This very attractive GAR Badge is in very good to excellent condition. The bronze bar pin is in excellent condition with little to no significant wear. The Flag form ribbon is very well preserved with no tears or thinning and only some very light and uniform soiling. The Star shaped medal has only light wear to the very highest points of the casting. Both of the bronze elements retain a significant amount of their original gilt surface patina (see the scans below).
A rare and very attractive, Cast Bronze GAR Membership Badge and a fantastic addition to any collection!!!
