1876 President Ulysses S Grant Appointment Document Signed As President:
Rare, original 1876 Document Signed by Ulysses S. Grant as President of the United States appointing one John Scott Postmaster at Brookville, Pennsylvania.
This beautiful, engraved Document is printed on a high quality parchment paper and measures approx. 16 1/2" by 13 3/4". It is dated January 26th, 1976 and appoints John Scott Postmaster at Brookville in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania. The Document is boldly signed at the lower right hand corner - "U. S. Grant" and is also signed by James N. Tyner as Postmaster General. There is a beautiful, spread wing bald eagle perched atop a Federal Shield at the top and an affixed, gold foil seal of the United States Post Office Department (featuring an embossed image of a Pony Express Rider) at the lower left hand corner. The manuscript entries in the body of the Document have been entered in an artistic, calligraphic font adding much to the beauty of the presentation.
This very rare and very attractive, 1876 Ulysses S. Grant, Signed Document is in very good condition. The signature of President Grant is large and bold as are the other manuscript entries and the signature of the Postmaster General. The Parchment sheet retains significant margins on all sides. There is some very light age toning to the sheet and some light edge wear. There is also a 4" long, tight horizontal tear that enters the Document at a point 4" from the bottom of the right hand edge. This tear was repaired a very long time ago, with tape on the reverse with no resulting staining or discoloration to the Document. With a quality matting and framing the Document will display beautifully.
