1879 President Ulysses S Grant Philadelphia Mint Reception Parade Token Medalet For Sale

1879 President Ulysses S Grant Philadelphia Mint Reception Parade Token Medalet

Rare, original, 1879 Ulysses S Grant Presidential Parade / Visit Souvenir Brass Token / Medalet issued by the Employees of the U. S. Mint in Philadelphia. This original 1879 Medal measures approx. 1" in diameter and features a bust portrait of Grant on the front with the words "Ulysses S. Grant". The reverse features a central image of the Coat of arms of the City of Philadelphia surrounded by text that reads "Struck and Distributed In the Municipal Parade / By the Employees of the U. S. Mint / Phila. Dec 16, 1879"

On December 16, 1879 the City of Philadelphia held a Grand reception for President Ulysses S. Grant upon his return from a trip around the world. This celebration included a massive Parade through the City and the Token / Medal offered here was struck and distributed by the employees of the Philadelphia Mint to commemorate the great occasion.

We are not coin or token dealers and do not know how to grade this type of brass token but have included high quality scans of the token which give a very good indication of the condition. There is light wear to the highest spots on both sides of the Token - the strike is strong and crisp and the Medal / Medalet is well preserved.

A rare, original mid 19th century Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Celebration Token / Medalet and a fantastic addition to any collection!!!

Important Notes about Shipping Charges:

The amount quoted for Shipping & Handling is calculated by and is equal to the EXACT amount charged by the Post Office plus a $1.00 "packing fee" - the $1.00 fee is our only compensation for the virgin packing materials we use on all of our professionally packaged boxes as well as our cost for the salaried help that does most of our packing - as I am sure you can see, we make NO profit on the Shipping charges and, in fact, our costs are usually greater than the $1.00 fee. Please contact us if there are any issues regarding the cost of shipping.
