1880 James A. Garfield Presidential Campaign Ribbon:
Up for sale we have an 1880 James A. Garfield & Chester A. Arthur presidential campaign ribbon. Garfield, a republican, defeated democrat Winfield Scott to win the election and become the nation's 20th president. He also served 9 consecutive terms in the U.S. House of Representatives prior to becoming president. Tragically his presidency was abruptly ended by an assassins bullet in July of 1881. His presidency lasted only 200 days.
The ribbon is 4-1/2" in length with bold black lettering. The ribbon has a very light blue green tone to it that doesn't come across in the photos. It is different in color than the more commonly seen white ribbon. This ribbon has a handsome profile of the president. This 133 year old ribbon would be a nice addition to any collection. This is an original campaign ribbon so offer with confidence.
