Exceptionally Rare and original, 1880\'s Cabinet Card Photograph of a Native American Osage Indian Brave / Warrior wearing a combination of traditional and western garb. This wonderful, period Card Mount Photograph measures approx. 3 7/8” by 5 1/2” and is mounted on its original Card Mount (overall size is 4 1/4” by 6 1/2\").

This striking Image depicts a young and proud Osage Brave wearing a single coup feather, an ermine or beaver headdress, a beaded choker and beaded moccasins. A trade blanket is draped over his lap. The Brave is seated in the studio of the photographer – George W. Parsons at Pawhuska, Indian Territory – against a decidedly European design backdrop.

Powhuska was established in 1872 as the seat of the Osage Tribal Government and is still the seat of the Osage Tribal Council.

This rare, original and very attractive, 1880’s Cabinet Card Photograph is in very good condition. The Photograph itself is generally clean and crisp and well preserved exhibiting sharp focus, strong contrast and rich tonality. The Card Mount, while intact, is softened likely as a result of exposure to moisture sometime in the past exhibits some spots of surface scuffing on the reverse only.
