1880s Different Cabinet Card University Singers Of New Orleans – Black Americana:
This cabinet card photograph shows a group of African-Americans with the label “The Only Original University Singers of New Orleans.” The group consists of five females and four males. This group was one of the best known Jubilee singing groups, and were known to tour the north in support of a home for black orphans. The photo is circa 1880 and marked on the reverse by Bogardus – Artist and Photographer, No. 349 Sixth Avenue, New York. Overall very good condition, with some chipping on a couple of corners, light soiling on the top edge, and a couple of small spots. Measures about 6.5” x 4.25”. I have seen a number of pictures of the Only Original University Singers of New Orleans, but I have not seen this particular photo.
