DETAILS

Two uniform volumes of this wide ranging illustrated magazineof the later nineteenth century.

Comprising Volume XXX (New Series Volume VIII) covering May to October 1885, and Volume XXXIV (New Series Volume XII) covering May to October 1887.

Featuring numerous illustrations, including portrait frontispieces.

Both volumes contain the sections\'Battles and Leaders of the Civil War\'. Volume XXX contains \'Memoranda on the Civil War\'.

The Century Magazine was first published in the US in 1881, succeeding Scribner\'s Monthly Magazine. Its content, written by numerous contributors, included illustrated history articles, matters of recent interest, and literature. Its American Civil War series included contributions by generals and over 200 Northern and Southern participants of all ranks. It ceased publication in 1930.

CONDITION

In half calf bindings. Externally, rubbed, with marks. Hinges slightly strained. Internally, firmly bound, with just occasional light foxing prominent to first and last few pages, and the odd mark. Occasional ink library stamps, lending bookplate to front pastedown of Volume XXX, remains of lending bookplate to front pastedown of Volume XXXIV, and shelfmark labels to spines. Overall: GOOD.
