Elizabeth Custer or "Libby" was the love of George Custer life and in some regards was no less famous than her husband. They were in the truest sense "a couple" and our understanding of their relationship has been enhanced by Libby's writings of her time in the company of her husband during his campaigning on the western plains against the Indians. Custer was already alegend known as-The Boy General-from the Civil War. Elizabeth's writing of his post-war career enhances both our view of him as a man and them as a couple in love. And makes a brilliant illumination of his Military life with the United States Army, which includes it's many colorful personalities of the old west. Here then is the famous 7th Cavalry and their exploits, asseen byElizabeth and George Custer,as she and her husband lived them. From the cruising everyday camp life on the Frontier to the extracting with the war-like tribes of the plains. This touching account ends inevitably as Custer and his command ride out for the fateful encounter at the Little Big Horn.
