PERSONAL KEEPSAKE ALBUM,HAND-MADE,BY ANNIE.M.BROWN,OF GRATIOT COUNTY,ILLINOIS.SHE WAS A SCHOOL TEACHER,HER FATHER WAS THE VERY HONORABLE GILES.T.BROWN WHO WAS A VERY PROMINENT SON OF ITHACA,IL.HE TRIED TO ENLIST IN THE UNION ARMY BUT WAS TOO FRAIL AND WAS DISCHARGED.HE REMAINED FRIENDS WITH MANY SOLDIERS.HE SERVED ASD A JUDGE,COMMISSIONER,SUPT. OF SCHOOLS,STATE SENATOR,AND WAS ACTIVE IN THE G.A.R., WAS A WRITER AND POET.ANNIE PUT TOGEATHER THIS ALBUM AFTER HER FATHER,GILES DIED,MEASURING 5" X 7.5" W/WATER COLOR PAINTING OF FLOWERS ON THE COVER.IT CONSISTS OF 10 ENVELOPES,LACED TOGEATHER WITH RIBBON AND EACH HAND LETTERED.ALSO INCLUDED IS ANNIES' GOLD PLATED LOCKET(LEFT BEZEL MISSING,DOESN'T CLOSE)LEFT SIDE CONTAINS STRANDS OF HAIR,AND A TINTYPE OF A HANDSOME MAN ON THE OTHER.THE LOCKET HAS ENGRAVED COTTAGE AND BARN ON THE FACE AND FLEUR-DE-LIS ON THE BACK,MEASURING 1 3/8" DIAMETER.EX.COND,DATES APP.1880.INSIDE THE ENVELOPES ARE HANDWRITTEN POEMS,LETTERS,NEWS CLIPPINGS WITH ANNIES FATHER AND OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS AS AUTHORS.THERE IS AN UNPUBLISHED POEM BY THE GREAT CONFEDERATE COLONEL WILLIAM CAMPBELL PRESTON BRECKENRIDGE WHO RODE ALONGSIDE GEN.JOHN HUNT MORGAN.THE POEM IS WRITTEN AND SIGNED BY BRECKENRIDGE.A BEAUTIFUL 4" LONG SIGNATURE OF WCP BRECKENRIDGE AND A GREAT VERSE.THE BRECKENRIDGE HISTORY IS FASCINATING,WILLIE BRECKENRIDGE AND HIS BROTHER ROBERT JR JOINED THE CONFEDERACY TO RIDE WITH MORGAN WHILE THEIR FATHER SERVED WITH THE UNION.MAYBE ITEMS WITH NAMES OF LINCOLN,ISSAC SHELBY,AND OTHER CONFEDERATE GREATS.
