1890's Figural Majolica "swiss Mountaineer" Figural Tobacco Jar / Humidor For Sale
Beautiful, ca1890’s Swiss Alpine Mountaineer form, French Majolica, Figural Tobacco Jar. This outstanding Tobacco Jar / Humidor measures approx. 5 1/2” tall and 2 3/4” by 2 3/4” at the base. It is molded in the form of a classic, Swiss Mountaineer with trademark, soft hat and moustache.
This beautiful, Figural Tobacco Jar is made of a high grade, white porcelain like bisque with the surface decorated with the typical tin glaze, brilliant Majolica surface. The Jar is marked on the base with the impressed numbers “3667” and “44". .
This beautiful Tobacco Jar is in very good condition. There are two tiny, fleabites on the very edge of the brim of the Mountaineer’s hat but otherwise there are no chips, cracks, crazing, damage or repairs of any kind. The ground bisque is a brilliant white and there is no wear or discoloration to the tin glaze.
A rare and wonderful, late 19th century Swiss Alpine Mountaineer form, French Majolica, Figural Tobacco Jar and a fantastic addition to any collection or accent to the most elegant of Smoking Rooms!!!
